Allan de la Plante DTM

                            This is the cover of Athans book 'Ski Free' which de la Plante colaborated as the photographer.  This shot was taken just below the old Roundhouse at Whistler.  Athans built a jump on the lower road with an inrun from just below the Roundhouse.  Needless to say he pulled it off and so did de la Plante!  The interesting part of this story is one of Athans' sponsors wanted on the cover of the book and would pay a substantial amount of loot if their logo was in the shot.  Athans was able to concentrate enough while in this inverted position to have his left hand facing the camera.  'Look', the sponsor, was delighted and promptly made a poster of the image!

                        The same day the cover for 'Ski Free' was shot, Athans and de la Plante stopped just above mid-station at Whistler before down-loading to Creekside in the valley.  This double-exposure was the result.  It appears on the back cover of 'Ski Free'. 

de la Plante's time with Greg and the wonderful free-spirited gang of freestyle skiers on the World Professional Freestyle Tour is full of great stories and fond memories of crazy stunts that are still hard to believe that they actually happened.

Ski Free is still found on eBay from time to time.

Unfortunately Athans died several years ago well before his time.
